Ferrari presents a new turbocharged 488 GTB with a significant reduction in CO2 emissions per hp.
To convince Ferrari’s faithful V-8 coupe buyers that the turbocharged 488 GTB is more powerful and greener than its predecessor, Ferrari offered multiple ways to compare the emissions from its new and old offerings. The turbocharged 488 GTB delivers 661 hp and emits 260 grams of CO2 per km while its predecessor, the 458 Italia with a naturally aspirated engine, offered 562 hp and had emissions of 275g/km. That means power jumped by 18 percent (+99 hp) while CO2 emissions dropped by 5.5 percent.
The 488’s improvements over the 458 come mostly because of Ferrari’s switch to a new 3.9-liter engine, which added two twin-scroll turbochargers. The 458 has a normally aspirated 4.5-liter unit and no turbos. The turbos also helped reduce the 488’s 0-100khp time to 3 seconds from 3.4 seconds in the 458.
The launch date of the new Ferrari for the U.S. is January 2016.
